Stephanie
Combining creativity and functionality; fusing contemporary and rustic.
- Date: 2018
- Project Type: Residential Building
About this Project
For this new build, our client, Stephanie, told us what she wanted and needed and then gave us complete creative license to design her home. This project was fun because it required us to be creative in fulfilling Stephanie’s requests while working within the scope of the project. That’s where the art is!
When it came to overarching design, Stephanie was looking for a blend of contemporary and rustic: she wanted clean, straight lines, lots of light, and a contemporary look, without being industrial. The challenge was bringing together contemporary and rustic, which wasn’t being done architecturally at the time.
Because Stephanie gave us artistic license, we were able to add certain features we’d never built before. The master bathroom, for example, is a feather in our cap because it incorporates new, unique design features.
In terms of functionality, Stephanie wanted her children to have their own space. We designed a “kid zone,” including a room away from the main living area with lots of storage to keep their toys and games tidy, and Jack-and-Jill bathrooms between their bedrooms.
From design to functionality, designing and building Stephanie’s home gave us the chance to meet her specific needs—and she loved it, which made us happy, too!
